There are plenty of opportunities for cycling, hiking and touring in this beautifully scenic area, with Hamsterley Forest, the deer park at nearby Raby Castle, or you can discover the waterfalls at High Force and Cauldron Snout. The market town of Barnard Castle, with cobbled streets and the Bowes Museum, is within reach, plus a short drive brings you into the heart of Durham, with its majestic cathedral standing high above the River Wear.
